Solidariogb — International support for a historic commemoration
What is this campaign?
The year 2028 marks the centenary of the birth of Ernesto “Che” Guevara (14 June 1928), an emblematic figure of internationalism, anti-imperialist struggle, and solidarity with oppressed peoples.
At Solidariogb, we aim to contribute to this commemoration in our role as a supporting organisation, collaborating with established solidarity movements in the United Kingdom and Europe to amplify Che’s message and its relevance to contemporary struggles.
Our approach
We are a small but committed organisation. Our strategy is based on:
- Support, not lead: We collaborate with established organisations that have the infrastructure to organise large-scale events
- Visibility with low effort: We maximise our impact as Solidariogb through strategic alliances
- Connect Che’s legacy with present struggles: Anti-imperialism, international solidarity, defence of Cuba, and resistance to neoliberalism
Strategic partners
We will work with established Cuba solidarity movements in the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, and Belgium, as well as trade unions and Palestine solidarity organisations that share the values of internationalism and social justice.
These organisations have the experience, infrastructure, and networks necessary to organise large-scale events. Our role will be to support their work from our limited but committed capacity.
Planned actions
Phase 1: Building relationships (2026-2027)
- Initial contact with partner organisations to learn about their plans for the centenary
- Offer of support as a collaborating organisation
- Identification of specific needs where we can contribute
Phase 2: Coordination and preparation (2027)
- Promotion of partner events through Solidariogb channels
- Coordination of occasional logistical support (accommodation, transport, venues)
- Participation in planning meetings where possible
- Development of our own promotional materials
Phase 3: Execution (2028)
- Active promotion of all centenary events
- Attendance at key events (in person or virtual)
- Logistical support as agreed
- Coverage and promotion of events through our website and social media
Key campaign themes
- Che’s internationalism and its relevance in the 21st century
- Cuba’s medical and political solidarity with peoples around the world
- The historic connection between Che and Palestine (visit to Gaza in 1959)
- The fight against the US blockade of Cuba
- Che as a symbol of anti-imperialist resistance
