🇨🇴 Colombia will face a polarised second round between the far right and the left, with irregularities that appear to be quite marked.

Businessman Abelardo de la Espriella wins the first round with 43.7% of the vote, surpassing the government candidate Iván Cepeda, who obtained 40.9%. The run-off will be decided on 21 June.

⚔️ The electoral landscape:

  • De la Espriella (inspired by Trump and Bukele) promises a “hard line”, security within 90 days and radical measures against crime.
  • Cepeda represents the legacy of Gustavo Petro, focused on social spending and dialogue with armed groups.

📉 The Uribista debacle:
Paloma Valencia, candidate of former president Álvaro Uribe, suffered a resounding defeat, coming third with only 6.9%, bowing out of the contest.

The National Civil Registry reported a turnout of 56.49% in the electoral process.

The polling station officials who were selected to carry out their respective duties on the election day of 31 May must also appear at the ballot boxes on 21 June for the run-off vote.
