In my view, the Latin American communist movement is currently suffering from ideological paralysis due to a false dilemma that separates global geopolitics from the local class struggle – a doctrinal error that is brutally evident in the analysis of Venezuela.

Certain sectors seek to ignore the fact that imperialism remains the highest stage of capitalism and the principal global threat, currently orchestrating a new ‘Monroe’ Order that extorts peoples through financial siege and economic blockade. However, denouncing this criminal aggression does not justify capitulating to its effects: the fact that the Venezuelan government is acting under brutal existential coercion does not negate the material reality that its economic reforms—the privatisation of assets, the relaxation of labour regulations and the handover of strategic resources to transnational capital—constitute a severe doctrinal setback that directly harms the working class.

For contemporary Marxism-Leninism, the conclusion is inescapable: imperialism has not disappeared, but is advancing by subjugating states through economic blackmail; therefore, defending national sovereignty against imperialism necessarily requires defending the rights of the proletariat and workers’ control over the means of production, combating both external aggression and internal capitalist restructuring.
