Protest Note

London 1th May 2026 | Editorial

We, the undersigned – SolidarioGB, Compromiso Por la Refundación de Chile, and former Shake It Up candidate Eduardo Salgado – issue this protest in the strongest possible terms against an alleged incident involving Kenyan police forces and a demonstration in Nairobi.

The fragility of Anglo-French imperialism is laid bare when it is forced to violently repress a peaceful anti-imperialist march and arrest local and international demonstrators. The brutal actions of the Kenyan client regime, acting on behalf of its Anglo-French masters, reflect their fear and fragility in the face of growing international working-class solidarity. If the ruling class can no longer tolerate even peaceful political opposition, it reveals its paper tiger reality and suggests that the time has come for the world’s workers to unite and defeat our imperialist enslavers.

In this demonstration route was allegedly agreed in advance with police and directed away from a summit towards a statue of Dedan Kimathi, a figure associated with anti-colonial struggle. Marchers were met with tear gas, stun grenades, batons and firearms, and that arrests were made at gunpoint.

Update – Release of detainees:
We note with cautious acknowledgment that the five comrades detained in Nairobi, Kenya, have now been released. While this development is welcomed, we maintain that their initial detention was unjustified and that all remaining charges against them and others must be dropped immediately. The release does not diminish the seriousness of the original violation of political rights, nor does it erase the need for full accountability regarding the conduct of the police forces involved.

We demand the immediate and unconditional release of all other named detained Kenyan activists – should they remain in custody.

The Kenyan client regime reflects the fear and weakness of its imperialist masters, unable to tolerate even peaceful political opposition. They respond to truth with censorship, repression and lies, and respond to unarmed people with tear gas, weapons and batons. Their efforts are in vain. Their unbridled repression will only accelerate the demands for justice, peace and dignity by the world’s workers.

Long live international solidarity!
